2012 Camp Line-up for

Mad Science of North Central Indiana

 HALF DAY CAMPS:

Kid’s Lab 2012 - Ideal for budding young mad scientists who want to explore in a FUN, hands-on way just how science impacts their everyday lives. Campers will explore the science behind machines, create chemical reactions, discover what football players, ballet dancers, and scientists have in common, investigate the animal world, and learn how to bend light. This unique combination of topics will capture the fascination of even the most timid science adventurer! Appropriate for ages 5 to 7.

Junior Engineers 2012 - A super science camp for junior scientists who want to have a bunch of FUN while immersing themselves in a different science topic each day. Campers will explore the chemical nature of things; build, design, and test structures; learn the mechanics of simple machines and use these simple machines to build more complex devices; build and test flying planes and learn about rockets; and learn basics of electric circuits and motors and then build some. Appropriate for ages 7-11.

Robots 2012 - Campers in the Mad Science Robot camp will build the OWI ATR robot. This FUN robot can be assembled in one of three configurations; the Gripper, the Forklift, and the Rover (see picture below). Campers will begin the week with a box of parts and each camper will depart on Friday with a working robot. During the week, campers will learn fundamental properties of simple construction, gears, electric circuits, and robotics. Campers must be at least eight years old and must have completed second grade when camp begins.

 MAD SCIENCE CAMPS ROCK!

 The Mad Science Camp Difference:

  •  Our camps are different from what many people think of as the "typical" summer camp; they are more than just playing games with a craft or two thrown in. Our camps are constructed to be both educational and FUN. They follow a carefully planned curriculum which is experiential in nature; or in other words, lots of FUN, hands-on activities to engage the imagination of the campers.
  • Mad Science camps offer a daily combination of in-class discovery and exploration, outdoor games and physical activities, and hands-on applications of the scientific principles presented.
  • Minimum of 10 and maximum of 20 children per camp. We have an instructor/camper ratio of one Mad Science Instructor for every 12 children.
  • Your child will be able touch, see, hear, smell and taste what science is really all about.
  • We use an inquiry-based technique that allows even the youngest camper to enjoy our learning environment.
  • Campers create a variety of take-home projects while exploring how science affects the world around us.
  • Our instructors are adults, not high school students. Some of our instructors are college students (usually education or science majors), teachers, and other education-related professionals. All of our instructors have had the full Indiana State Police Background check.

Sign up to receive e-mail updates on our camps and other programs. Send an e-mail to FUN@indymadscience.org with the words "subscribe program information" in the subject field. (We never share your e-mail information.)
