2009 Camp Line-up for

Mad Science of North Central Indiana  

Kid’s Lab 2009 – Explore the science behind toys, create chemical reactions, discover what football players, ballet dancers, and scientists have in common, investigate the animal world, and probe the mysteries of outer space. This FUN science camp will capture the fascination of young science adventurers! Appropriate for ages 5 to 7.

For Girls Only! – Girls will delve into how science affects our daily lives – explore our skeletal and circulatory systems, experiment with colors and light, investigate the features of animal creatures, examine the earth beneath your feet, and tons of more FUN. Brownies can qualify for the Eat Right, Stay Healthy and My Body Try-Its and Junior Girl Scouts can qualify for the Science in Everyday Life and Wildlife badges. Sorry boys, this camp is for girls only. Appropriate for ages 6 to 11 (must have completed Kindergarten). 

Secret Agent Lab 2009 – New activities for 2009! Create codes, solve secret messages, match simulated blood from a crime scene, examine forensic evidence, investigate the science of security. Campers will uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis; figure out the science of forensics, and master the spy game in this FUN hands-on camp that combines spy science with the science of sleuthing. Appropriate for ages 7 to 11 (must have completed 1st grade).

Robots 2009 – Build your own working robot to take home and keep! This year’s model is the Kabuto-Mushi Robot. Explore the “FUN”damentals of robotics as you construct this sleek-looking, powerful, infrared remote controlled robot.  You will assemble the gear boxes, install the 4 motors, connect the wires in the body and the controller. and more! Appropriate for ages 7 to 11 (must have completed 1st grade).

Rocket and Space Adventures – 3…2…1…Blastoff for a mission of FUN! Explore the Earth's atmosphere, discover comets, planets, and more, test your skills against the challenges of space travel, build a rocket, and participate in a rocket launch. You’ll find this camp to be out of this world! Appropriate for kids 7 – 11 years old (must have completed first grade).

The Mad Science Camp Difference:

  • Our camps are different from what many people think of as the "typical" summer camp; they are more than just playing games with a craft or two thrown in. Our camps are constructed to be both educationand and FUN. They follow a carefully planned curriculum which is experiential in nature; or in other words, lots of FUN, hands-on activities to engage the imagination of the campers.

  • Mad Science camps offer a daily combination of in-class discovery and exploration, outdoor games and physical activities, and hands-on applications of the scientific principles presented.

  • Minimum of 10 and maximum of 20 children per camp. We have an instructor/camper ratio of one Mad Science Instructor for every 12 children.

  • Your child will be able touch, see, hear, smell and taste what science is really all about.

  • We use an inquiry-based technique that allows even the youngest camper to enjoy our learning environment.

  • Campers create a variety of take-home projects while exploring how science affects the world around us.

  • Our instructors are adults, not high school students. Some of our instructors are college students (usually education or science majors), teachers, and other education-related professionals. All of our instructors have had the full Indiana State Police Background check.
