Kid’s Lab
Kid’s Lab 2010 – Explore the science behind toys, create chemical reactions, discover what football players, ballet dancers, and scientists have in common, investigate the natural world, and probe the mysteries of outer space. This FUN science camp will capture the fascination of young science adventurers! Appropriate for kids entering Kindergarten through 2nd grades.
Kid’s Lab Daily Theme Descriptions:
Toy Science
Explore the science behind toys! Experiment with the science of motion using balls, yo-yos, and a marble roller coaster; examine different toys that help illustrate the inventive nature of toy construction and scientific principles.
Eco Explorers
Investigate the natural world around you. Do insects bug you? Find out why. Meet and greet a living member of the Lumbricidae family. Play the nature scavenger hunt that combines science exploration with the animal kingdom!
Crazy Chemistry
Become a Mad Science chemist as you learn all about the chemistry of things that you see everyday. Discover how chemical reactions are everywhere and how you can figure out if a chemical change has occurred right before your very eyes. Mix, mush and brew together different chemicals to create things that you can use in this hands-on chemistry adventure.
Science of Sport
Explore how Newton helps us learn why we move the way we do, and improve the games we play. Campers experiment with games and activities while learning how physical and chemical sciences affect their equipment, movement, and technique.
Space Place
Young astronauts explore the mysteries of the solar system. Children will discover how astronauts live and work in space. The sun, the moon, the stars, and gravity are only a few of the things that must be dealt with on this Mad Science space mission. We’ll cap off today’s activities with a rocket launch.
Robots 2010
Explore the “FUN”damentals of robotics as you construct your own working robotic arm to take home and keep! You will assemble gear boxes, install motors, and connect the wires! Participate in activities centering on simple machines, scientific forces, electricity, and more. Appropriate for kids entering 2nd through 5th grades.
In addition to the descriptions listed below, campers will work each day on building their robot. Campers follow the step-by-step verbal directions given by the instructor and work on the same building steps at the same time. Our instructors inspect each building step along to way to help ensure success. On the last day, after campers are finished building, they will test out their completed robots in fun, interactive activities.

Robots 2010 Complimentary Activity Theme Descriptions:
The Robots Are Coming!
In today’s world we seem to be experiencing a robot invasion – they help build our cars, they vacuum our floors, they explore outer space. But what exactly is a robot? Can a robot do my chores? What do they look like? How do they move? Is a robot intelligent? Campers will explore the answers to these questions and more through hands-on activities and games.
Simple Machine Mania
Levers and pulleys and gears, Oh My! Campers will be introduced to simple machines, how they work, and how we use them to do the simplest daily tasks or combine them to make complex machines. Campers will perform experiments to help prove that simple machines really do make work easier.
Circuit Science
Campers will explore the “nuts and bolts” of robots by building simple circuits, testing for conductors and non-conductors and operating switches.
Use Your Common Sensors
Campers will learn about sensors and how they enable a robot to learn about the surrounding environment. They will play games that involve their senses and do activities that involve communication.
Robots 101
Campers will learn about robot design as well as the applications of robotic technology. Additionally, campers will discover how flexible robots are (or aren’t) as they compare and contrast robotic and human movement capabilities.
Spy Academy
Spy Academy – Become a super spy and learn clever ways of performing tasks in this hands-on view of the science that spies use! Create codes, solve secret messages, discover and test the technological tools of the spy trade in this FUN hands-on spy camp. Appropriate for kids entering 2nd through 5th grades.
Spy Academy Daily* Theme Descriptions:
Discover Detection
Step into the shoes of a spy — uncover the science involved in intelligence gathering and analysis. Using powers of observations and some tools of the trade, our young scientists will have all they need to get started on their spy adventure.
Tricky Tracking
Campers use a case stamper to probe the science of tracking—they will stamp out a scenario on a case card according to a pre-determined story. With the “Spynoculars” campers safely observe clues from afar. These binoculars are used to test the limits of magnified observation and are a diverting way to use observational skills.
Science of Security
Become a super spy and learn clever ways of performing tasks in this hands-on view at the science that spies use. Campers discover what it takes to keep things safe and how technology works in the spy game!
Spies on the Scene
Spies must always be on the alert. Practice the skills of recall and observation — young spies are provided with character descriptions to reconstruct the face of the suspected spies!
Spy Academy
From decoding messages to metal detectors and night vision, campers will have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and even create their own secret message! Campers will use the “Secret Code Breaker” to communicate stealthily, like real spies.
