This FUN science camp will capture the fascination of young science adventurers! Appropriate for ages 5 to 7.

Toy Science

Explore the science behind toys! Experiment with the science of motion using balls, yo-yos, and a marble roller coaster; become a “bubbleologist” as you discover how to make bigger and better bubbles; examine different toys that help illustrate the inventive nature of toy construction and scientific principles. Make your own bouncing ball to take home!

Forest Friends

Explore the animal world as you investigate animal life cycles and their habits, Learn about predators and prey. Make your own plaster cast of an animal's footprint. Meet and greet a living member of the Lumbricidae family. Play the nature scavenger hunt that combines science exploration with the animal kingdom!

Crazy Chemistry

Become a Mad Science chemist as you learn all about the chemistry of things that you see everyday. Discover how chemical reactions are everywhere and how you can figure out if a chemical change has occurred right before your very eyes. Mix, mush and brew together different chemicals to create things that you can use in this hands-on chemistry adventure.

Science of Sport

What do football players, scientists and ballet dancers have in common? Explore how Newton helps us learn why we move the way we do, and improve the games we play.  Campers experiment with games and activities while learning how physical and chemical sciences affect their equipment, movement, and technique.

Space Place

Young Mad Science astronauts explore the mysteries of the solar system.  Children will discover how astronauts live and work in space.  The sun, the moon, the stars, and gravity are only a few of the things that must be dealt with on this Mad Science space mission. We’ll cap off today’s activities with a rocket launch.

Robots 2009 Camp

Build your own working robot to take home and keep! This year’s model is the Kabuto-Mushi Robot. Explore the “FUN”damentals of robotics as you construct this sleek-looking, powerful, infrared remote controlled robot.  You will assemble the gear boxes, install the 4 motors, connect the wires in the body and the controller. and more! Appropriate for ages 7 to 11 (must have completed 1st grade).

In addition to the descriptions listed below, campers will work each day on building their robot. Campers follow the step-by-step verbal directions given by the instructor and work on the same building steps at the same time. Our instructors inspect each building step along to way to help ensure success. On the last day, after campers are finished building, they will test out their completed robots in fun, interactive activities.

 The Robots Are Coming!

In today’s world we seem to be experiencing a robot invasion – they help build our cars, they vacuum our floors, they explore outer space. But what exactly is a robot? Can a robot do my chores? What do they look like? How do they move? Is a robot intelligent? Campers will explore the answers to these questions and more through hands-on activities and games.

Simple Machine Mania

Levers and pulleys and gears, Oh My!  Campers will be introduced to simple machines, how they work, and how we use them to do the simplest daily tasks or combine them to make complex machines.

Circuit Science

Campers will build simple circuits which will help them to understand how electricity works. They will demonstrate what they learned after they build the wireless controller for their robots.

Use Your Common Sensors

Human beings receive information through our five senses,  and the brain evaluates the information and gives instructions to the legs, arms, and hands of how to respond. Campers will learn about sensors and how they enable a robot to learn about the surrounding environment.

Robots 101

Campers will learn about robot design as well as the applications of robotic technology.  Additionally, campers will discover how flexible robots are (or aren’t) as they compare and contrast robotic and human movement capabilities.

Secret Agent Lab Camp

New activities for 2009!  Create codes, solve secret messages, match simulated blood from a crime scene, examine forensic evidence, investigate the science of security.  Campers will uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis; figure out the science of forensics, and master the spy game in this FUN hands-on camp that combines spy science with the science of sleuthing. Appropriate for ages 7 to 11 (must have completed 1st  grade).

Discover Detection

Are detectives really scientists in disguise? Discover what it takes to be a detective in this hands-on look at detective science. Campers will create, collect, and analyze evidence and discover what skills are necessary as a crime scene lab technician.

Funky Forensics

Figure out the science of forensics in this hands-on look at crime scenes. Evidence collection and puzzle making will lead campers to understanding why forensic scientists like to understand the complete picture before they make decisions. Campers will probe the science of tracking by creating a scenario on a case card according to a pre-determined story.

Science of Security

Become a super spy and learn clever ways of performing tasks in this hands-on view at the science that spies use. Campers discover what it takes to keep things safe and how technology works in the spy game!  Campers will put their spy skills to the test by building their very own secret safe and challenging others to crack the code!

Sleuths on the Scene

Suspects, schematics, and sleuths… oh my! Connect the dots using science to help solve a crime in this hands-on investigation at the science of sleuthing. Campers will use theScene Solver” to reconstruct the scene of a crime, and then employ very logical and scientific powers of observation to help solve a crime.

Spy Academy

Look out 007 - the Mad Science Spy Academy is in session! From edible messages, “dead drops” and decoding clues, campers will have the opportunity to check out the skills that spies have in this hands-on journey into the world of espionage.  Campers will make their own secret code breaker to communicate stealthily at home, like real spies.

Rocket and Space
