Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Mad Science Camp?
Mad Science camps are designed for exciting fun hands-on science activities. Your child will become a junior scientist for the week, having the opportunity to experience a variety of science explorations. We use an inquiry-based technique that allows even the youngest camper to enjoy learning. Children will design, create, build and assemble a variety of interesting projects and will take at least one project home every day. We provide most everything your child will need.  For full day camps, please provide a lunch and snacks for your child; for half day camps please provide a snack for your child. Children should dress comfortably and come ready to have fun!

What is the child to instructor ratio?
For the half day camps, the ratio is 12 - 1.  For the full day camps, there are always 2 instructors.

What ages are the camps designed for?
Most camps are appropriate for ages 6-12.  If you have a 5-year old child who is entering first grade, they may still enjoy our camps. However, they need to be a child who is not easily frustrated, has some reading skills, and does not mind being helped.

Are different aged children in the same camp
Yes. We use a buddy system whereby the older children will sometimes help the younger ones. Also, our instructors are trained to relate to different age groups. For most of the activities, the children work in small groups.

Who are the Mad Science camp instructors?
Most of our instructors are people who have worked for us in our after-school programs that we conduct in over 70 schools every spring and fall semester. All of them have experience working with children. We also do a criminal background check on each one. The common bond all of our instructors share is their love of working with children.

How long has Mad Science been doing camps?
This is the fifth year that we will be running our weeklong camps. Mad Science of Snohomish and King Counties is a franchise of The Mad Science Group in Montreal Canada. There are over 150 Mad Science franchises all over the world. The Mad Science Group has been providing Mad Science programs for over 20 years.

How do I register my child for a camp?
Some programs are being run by our partners where we are holding the camp. In those camps, you must call or register online directly with our partners. If the camp is a Mad Science Hosted Camp, you can enroll over the phone or online. If you are paying by VISA or MasterCard, you can call us and we will be happy to take your registration over the phone. You can also visit www.MadScienceRegistration.com and register online. If you are paying by check or money order, you can download a registration form and send it in with your payment. Due to limited spaces in each camp, we cannot reserve a space for your child until we receive your payment. If you are paying by check, we do not officially reserve your spot until your check is received.

Is payment due in full when I register?
Yes.

How soon do I need to register to reserve a space for my child?
This is the toughest question we get because we have no idea. Some camps and dates fill very quickly, while some may have spaces available up to the start date. We recommend that you register as soon as possible. Register early to reserve your child a space!

What is your refund policy?
For a Mad Science Hosted Camp, if at least 10 children do not enroll in a particular session, you will be notified and a full refund given. If you request a refund within 12 days prior to the start of the camp you selected, a $50 service fee will be charged. After the first day of camp, if your child does not wish to continue, we will refund you your enrollment fee less the $50.00 service charge. However, you must call Mad Science at 425-556-0800 prior to the start of the second day of camp to obtain a refund. After that, no refunds will be given.  The $20 sibling discount for 7-hour camps and $10 sibling discount for 3-hour camps will be applied after the fact.  Please notify Mad Science when you have booked two children for the same week and the credit will be handled manually.  If you are enrolled in a Mad Science Camp that is being hosted by one of our partners, their refund policy is in effect.

Can I sign my child up for more than one camp?
Yes. Many children sign up for multiple camps. Each one is totally different so that your child can enjoy them all without repeating activities.

My child has attended a Mad Science camp before. If he/she took a particular camp, will it be the same camp that he/she has taken before?
The camps are the same as the ones that we have offered in the past. For example, if your child has taken Rockin' Rockets before, many of the activities will be the same. However, each year we make changes and modifications so there will be some new and different things. We have had a lot of children take a particular camp again and enjoy it just as much the second time.

What if I see a particular camp and dates that I want, but you are offering it on a morning or afternoon that won't work into my schedule?
Call us and we will discuss it with you. When we set up our schedule, we arbitrarily pick a morning or afternoon session for many of our camps. When that session fills, we will then open the corresponding afternoon or morning camp. Many times we get sufficient enrollment to be able to hold the second camp. You can also periodically check our website to see if we have added camps.

Are these the only locations where you are holding your camps this summer?
Maybe not. We may be adding locations, especially in the outlying areas. Also, if you can get at least 15 children and can provide a location, we will bring a camp to you. Usually, we can customize something to fit the times and dates that you want. Call us, we would love to discuss this option with you.

At some of the locations, it appears that you are offering two different camps on the same weeks. Is this correct?
Yes. We have access to two rooms at some locations so we will be running two camps at the same time.

Do you provide a lunch with the 7-hour camp?
No. You must send a sack lunch as well as 2 snacks with your child.

Do you offer Early Drop-off or Late Pick-up?
Not for the Mad Science hosted camps. If it is not a Mad Science hosted camp, then the option might be available.

Will my child need to bring any supplies?
The costs include everything that your child will need. (Exception: If you have selected a 7-hour camp, your child will need to bring a sack lunch. Our camp includes all the tools and equipment your child needs during our camp day.)

Do you offer sibling discounts?
A $20 sibling discount for 7-hour camps and a $10 sibling discount for 3-hour camps will be applied after the fact. Please notify Mad Science when you have booked two children for the same week and the credit will be handled manually.

Does Mad Science offer scholarships for Summer Camps?
Unfortunately we are unable to offer scholarships at this time.  If this is a partner camp (one where Mad Science does not handle the registrations) we would suggest that you contact that camp location directly.

Do you provide food/snacks for my child?
Due to allergies and dietary restrictions, we will no longer be providing food for your child.  For the half day camps, please provide a snack.  For the full day camps, please provide 2 snacks and a lunch.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

I see some camps are being held in churches, why?

There is no religious aspect to our camps, the churches are simply where Mad Science rents space to run the camps.
