FCAT PAK Workshops 

Mad Science can help your fifth graders (and teachers) tackle FCAT Science by bringing hands-on science workshops to your students.

The FCAT Pak is a series of hands-on exciting workshops tailored to address annually assessed benchmarks on the Fcat Science Test. 

The FCAT Pak workshop series is designed to supplement your school’s current science curriculum by using hands-on experiments and exciting demonstrations to introduce students to the FCAT elementary science content areas.  We offer 8 workshops to each of your 5th grade classrooms starting in August or September and finishing in March.  

The FCAT Pak is a series of one-hour workshops that utilize fun hands-on science to teach 5th graders annually assessed benchmarks on the Fcat Science Test.  In each workshop, Mad Science experiments and demonstrations are used to help students grasp the standards outlined in Florida Department of Education’s Sunshine State Standards. Each workshop includes:

  • Embedded FCAT sample questions in workshop activities and demonstrations
  • Pre & post activity guides for teachers
  • Student take-home projects to bring some of their experience home  and reinforce concepts 
  • “What we learned” and “Lets try this at home” take home sheets 

Does the FCAT Pak replace classroom instruction? 

No! We can help teachers by bringing fun science to the students, but nothing can substitute for ongoing learning in a classroom.  The FCAT Pak is designed to supplement classroom instruction by emphasizing hands-on fun learning aimed at the specific FCAT standards. 

Why should we use the FCAT Pak in our school?

Programs that use different methods of teaching get through to students; we use visual, tactile, and auditory teaching methods in our inquiry-based workshops. Students “experience” the FCAT objectives, not just hear about them.  

What if we can’t spare the time?

We will work with your needs! Ideally, the sessions should be conducted during class time so that all students have the opportunity to be involved. However, we can conduct before or after school sessions, schedule individual objective workshops, or customize programs. Just ask!

Want FCAT focused workshops for other grade levels(K - 4th)?

We do offer hands-on workshops for other grade levels as well.  These workshops will introduce Fcat focused content to prepare them for testing in 5th grade.  Call or email for details.
