BLACK AND BLUE OCEANS
Audience:   Grades 3-6
Educational Objectives: This workshop introduces students to environmental issues relating to our water system. Through a hands-on approach students explore the effects of, and difficulties in cleaning up oil spills. [return to top]

Audience:   Grades K-2
Educational Objectives: This workshop introduces students to the major systems of the human body and their basic functions. Through a hands-on approach students will explore how the digestive, skeletal, muscular and respiratory systems work. [return to top]

CELLS
Audience:   Grades 3-6
Educational Objectives: This workshop provides students with an introduction to the components of cells. Through hands-on activities and inquiry-based teaching methods, students will develop their scientific skills while learning all about cells. [return to top]

DECOMPOSERS
Audience:   Grades K-2
Educational Objectives:  This workshop will allow students to gain an understanding of the concept of decomposition. They will learn its vital role in the food chain and in our environment. In addition, students are introduced to a variety of different decomposers both plant and animal. [return to top]

DINOSAURS
Audience:   Grades K-2
Educational Objectives: Investigating the habits, needs and characteristics of dinosaurs facilitates the exploration of the fossilization process. Hands-on activities assist students with their understanding of fossils and dinosaurs. [return to top]

THE DIRT ON GARBAGE
Audience:   Grades K-6
Educational Objectives: This workshop is an introduction to improving the state of the environment through waste reduction by exploring the concepts of reduce, reuse and recycle. ECOSYSTEM EXPLORATION
Audience:   Grades 3-6
Educational Objectives: Hands-on activities will provide students with an opportunity to explore the fascinating world of ecosystems. They will also learn about the interconnections that exist between all the living things in ecosystems, including human beings. [return to top]

ELECTRICITY
Audience:   Grades 3-6
Educational Objectives: This workshop introduces the students to the fundamental concepts of electricity. Students through hands-on activities, gain a better understanding of electrical circuits and the basic elements of electricity. [return to top]

GOOD VIBRATIONS
Audience:   Grades 3-6
Educational Objectives: This workshop introduces to physics of sound transmission and creation. Concepts like vibration, frequency (pitch), sound waves, and the transmission of sound waves through a liquid, solid, gas and even a vacuum will all be addressed. Students will learn about simple musical instruments and how they produce different notes. [return to top]

HEREDITY
Audience:   Grades 5-7
Educational Objectives: This workshop introduces students to the basic principles of heredity. Students will learn about the inheritance of traits, the principle of dominance, and how genotypes represent phonotype. Students will put their critical thinking to work while they assemble creatures with unique phenotypes and genotypes. They will then be challenged to think about probabilities and Punnett Squares when they consider the offspring that creatures with differing genotypes and phenotypes can produce. [return to top]

INVENTION-ATION
Audience:   Grades 3-6
Educational Objectives: This workshop introduces children to how inventors work and that many inventions happen by accident. Through a hands-on approach students will learn that anyone, of any age can be an inventor. [return to top]

MAGNIFICENT MAGNETS
Audience:   Grades K-2
Educational Objectives: This workshop provides an opportunity for students to explore the properties of magnets through a series of hands-on activities. The students will learn about attractive and repulsive magnetic forces and discover what magnetic poles are through inquiry based instructional methods. [return to top]

MATTER OF FACT
Audience:   Grades 3-6
Educational Objectives: This workshop introduces children to the structure of atoms and molecules. Students will learn how atoms combine to create molecules, and will examine molecules and molecular bonding using molecular models. Through a hands-on approach, students will learn and observe the difference between physical and chemical changes. Finally, students experiment with the chemical reactions resulting in the creation of Mad Science Putty. [return to top]


MEASURE FOR MEASURE
Audience:   Grades K-2
Educational Objectives: This workshop introduces the concept of measurement through hands-on activities that provide opportunities for children to learn the proper way to measure. Through inquiry based teaching methods students will be introduced to and work with different items and challenges to engage their critical thinking and measuring skills. [return to top]

MINERAL MANIA
Audience:   Grades 3-6
Educational Objectives: This workshop provides students with an introduction to geology, including an understanding of the geological formation processes, classification systems, identification methods, and physical properties of rocks and minerals. Hands-on activities encourage students to interact with the concepts presented. [return to top]

MISCHIEVOUS MAGNETS
Audience:   Grades 3-6
Educational Objectives: This workshop introduces students to the properties of magnets through hands on activities. It also employs inquiry based teaching methods to present advanced topics such as magnetic fields and electromagnets. [return to top]

PLAYING WITH POLYMERS
Audience:   Grades 3-6
Educational Objectives: This workshop acts as a primer to basic polymer chemistry. It serves as an excellent vehicle for the introduction of the physical and chemical properties of matter. In addition, students will explore the plethora of polymers that play an integral role in our daily lives and they will begin to understand the role that chemistry plays in creating these products and their applications. SCIENTIFIC METHOD
Audience:   Grades 4-5
Educational Objectives: This workshop introduces students to the common methodology used by scientists to formulate questions, make predictions, develop and perform experiments, collect and analyze data and draw conclusions. Students will be presented with a problem and asked to develop their own ideas to formulate a solution, make predictions, and test their solution. [return to top]

SEEKING OUR SENSES
Audience:   Grades K-2
Educational Objectives: This workshop is an introduction to how our five senses work and function and the ways in which we use them in our everyday lives. Through hands-on experiments and activities students will have the opportunity to explore the importance of all five senses. [return to top]

SLIPPERY SCIENCE
Audience:   Grades K-2
Educational Objectives: This workshop introduces students to the properties of polymers. Through a hands-on approach students explore different polymer materials. This lesson also provides and opportunity to develop scientific skills through inquiry based instructional materials. [return to top]

SPACE…THE FINAL FRONTIER
Audience:   Grades K-5
Educational Objectives: These are the voyages of young inquiring minds on a quest to discover Space! Their mission: to take an exciting look at planets, moons, comets, and the stars…to boldly go where bright young minds love to go.  (Space suits not required.) [return to top]

SOUND BASICS
Audience:   Grades K-2
Educational Objectives: This workshop is an introduction to the basics of sound. Students will explore how sound travels through the air, how different sounds can be produced and how our ears help us hear sound. Hands-on activities and demonstrations will allow students to discover how they can make different sounds and how vibrations produce sound. [return to top]

TASTE BUDS
Audience:   Grades K-2
Educational Objectives: This workshop is an excellent introduction to one of the 5 senses: the sense of taste. It explores the concepts of how taste and smell are intrinsically linked, how your taste buds work and how the tongue has regions that are sensitive to different types of tastes. Students will get a hands-on, up close look at this amazing sense and will get the opportunity to learn more about how their senses work together. [return to top]

WHERE’S THE AIR?
Audience:   Grades K-2
Educational Objectives: This workshop introduces the concept of air pressure through hands-on activities that encourage students to interact with the principles of air pressure. They are given the opportunity to apply this knowledge while experimenting with their own flying devices. [return to top]

WONDERFUL WORLD OF WETLANDS
Audience:   Grades K-6
Educational Objectives: This workshop introduces students to wetlands.  It teaches them what a wetland is, where they are located, and why they are important.  Students practice experimentation and observation to learn about the many values of wetlands. [return to top]
