For Ages 6-9 and 10-12
Have fun with chemistry in this exciting summer camp! Make a magical crystal garden and synthesize your own slime. Watch as smoke bellows from the NASA-styled rocket you build in-class! Learn about our solar system and make a comet using everyday items. Have a ‘shocking’ good time with a Van de Graaff generator and experience lighting first-hand! While half-day campers cover less material than full-day campers, we work hard to ensure they have as much fun. |

Daily Themes (Order of activities may vary)
Awesome Acids - Day 1 Uncover the secrets of chemistry and the effects acids and bases have on our daily lives. Learn to test for acid rain, make your own CO2 fire extinguisher, and watch as a film canister pops using an acid and a base! Explore the exciting world of polymers, the chemical reactions we use to create them and the inner workings of silly putty. Transform two regular liquids into an oozing batch of your very own slime!
.
Ice and Lightning - Day 2 Learn about electricity, its properties and its role in natural phenomena. Make indoor lightning while conducting hair-raising experiments with our electro-static generator. Explore the 3 states of matter. Turn water to ice in 30 seconds; build a giant bubbling potion; carbonate plain drinking water and create spectacular illusions used in the movies
Laserpalooza - Day 3 Learn about light, colors, holograms & special effects. Use a real laser to create illusions; design a light show and compete in a friendly game of Laser Limbo. Learn how science and art are blended together to form masterpieces. The children will learn about distorted images and draw their own.
Movie Mysteries Revealed - Day 4 Look at those special effects! Today we will investigate the science behind some of those cool special effects you see in movies. Students will make fake fingers and design spotlights. They will also learn the versatility of Dry Ice in movie effects by making bubbling potions and making scissors sing. Appropriate movie-shoot venues will be explored through exploring volcanoes and different types of flourescing rocks. Students will discover the power of magnets with their very own Magnet Lab.
Rocket Science! - Day 5 Build your very own model rocket. A great way to investigate space flight and aerodynamics! Discover the dynamics of rocket flight. Touch and feel our scale rockets while learning how and why they fly. Take part in a NASA-style launching of model rockets that soar into the air and then return to earth by parachute!
