Meet Our Mad Scientists

Cosmic Kelly

'Cosmic' Kelly is originally from Maui, HI and has been with Mad Science for 6 years. She is the oldest of 5 children and has her hands full with training our first Jr. Mad Scientist - 3 month old Robo Ryder! Parents and kids alike are always surprised that such a booming voice could come out of such a small gal - but it's always no microphone needed when Cosmic Kelly's in the house! Growing up Cosmic Kelly loved reading books about outer space and unexplained mysteries, and thought that nothing would be cooler than seeing a ghost or getting visited by aliens! Now that she's grown up, Cosmic Kelly still looks up at the stars and wonders when we'll make that amazing discovery that we're not alone. She's a bonofide sci-fi geek and you're likely to find her nose in a book in her free time. She's passionate about teaching children and adults alike about eating healthy, protecting the environment, and  find new and exciting ways to make energy that will help keep our planet healthy! Knowing how to handle a room full of kids with skill, Cosmic Kelly is one of our all-around Mad Scientists instructing and performing all programs Mad Science has to offer, as well as keeps things moving behind the scenes as our Mad Manager.

Your program turned out better than I expected. “Cosmic Kelly” was a great instructor and the children responded well to her. All of the children were very interested in each of the experiments and were eager to try it for themselves. I thought the material was very age appropriate for the group. Many of the parents gave good comments and feed back as well and they also inquired about contact information for future events of their own. The program was well worth the cost and is a much better alternative to the traditional clown/magician balloon acts. Thank you for providing a fun and learning experience for our children. I will most definitely recommend your program to others and keep you in mind for future events. Mahalo.  -Kimberly A.

The children and the teachers thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and we are looking forward to doing it again. Thank you so much. Kelly was just great!

-Director, Grace Fellowship Children's Center

Cosmic Kelly was fantastic! My son enjoyed his birthday party so much! The kids all enjoyed it, and the parents enjoyed it too. I had a few parents ask me about the cost and such because they were interested in having one for their children. I was able to enjoy the party instead of having to keep the children occupied, and everything ran so smoothly. My husband and I were both impressed that Cosmic Kelly could keep the kids all together and entertained throughout the entire show. Also, she was able to keep one of the children (who was in a cast) actively engaged in the activities. He was able to participate with all the kids even though he wasn't as physically capable, and that meant a lot to him!  -Jacqueline S.

Jiggy Jaime

No it's not 'Jiggly' or 'Jolly' Jaime...it's Jiggy! Always one to be in the spotlight, Jiggy Jaime is one of our lead Mad Scientist performers, being on stage since elementary school. She loves to make your birthday one to remember and never disappoints! Jiggy Jaime has been working with Mad Science since 2006 and the keiki of Hawaii couldn't be happier!

I think this is the best party we've done yet! From the customer service at the very start to the end of the party, I was impressed with everything! Thank you so much! -Shiloh C.

Jaime did an awesome job of entertaining the children. My daughter commented “I wish she could come back”. –Corinne M

Thank you for a wonderful experience! Many boys commented at the end of the party that this was the "best birthday party ever!" I even had one mom call and tell me that her son came home and couldn't stop talking about "thermal chemical reactions!" I appreciated the that Jamie never talked down to the 9-year old boys. She used scientific terms and her presentation was well paced and most importantly FUN! My four-year old enjoyed the show too! This was a birthday party my son loved!). –-Christina B.

Jolting Julia

One of our premier After School Instructors, Jolting Julia loves music, theater, and of course KIDS!  She has been a volunteer for children and teen programs and activities for a variety of church groups since the age of 12, as well I as an intern for a children's musical theater organization for 5 years. She is currently going to school in order to pursue a BA in Primary Education and possibly minor in Music and/or Theater.

My son just finished Madscience at Lanikai with "Joltin' Julia" and he LOVED it. Wanted to thank you for a wonderful course that made science fun and interesting. Julia was great with the kids and handled the class like a pro.  My son is looking forward to the next Madscience and I am sure we will enroll in the next available session. -Lanikai Elementary parent (After School Program participant)

Kooky Katie

Kooky Katie is one crazy scientist! She loves science and enjoys teaching it to others especially, Hawaii's keiki in the Mad Science programs. Ohio is where she grew up, but she has lived in four other states! She is taking time from working as a full time elementary school and middle school teacher to enjoy raising her daughter in Hawaii. Her days are quite busy with her little one, but she loves being a Mad Scientist and does when whenever she can!

Neptune Natalie

Another one of our spectacular After School Instructors, Neptune Natalie is a local gal born and raised in Kailua, HI. She's studied Cultural Anthropology at Hawaii Pacific University and studied Abroad at SoonChunHyang University in S. Korea. Always loving to work with children, Miss Neptune has volunteered at Kailua and Keolu Elementary Schools  and spent a summer spent a nanny for two young children. Her personal interests include playing the ukulele, being a big fan of that famous wizard Harry Potter books, hiking, and playing with her super cute puppy Riley. And for all you video game fans out there you have a partner in crime, because Neptune Natalie is also a fan of playing video games!

Rad Ry

Rad Ry loves to learn, and it shows! He is a full time nursing major attending HPU on their full-tuition Presidential Scholarship, and graduated top 5 from Waipahu High School's c/o 2008. Besides doing cool experiments, this Mad Scientist Instructor likes to read manga (Japanese comics), play videogames, and practice judo. In fact one of Rad Ry’s many talents includes being a black belt and assists in coaching at Waipahu High School during the judo season in his free time. What’s one of his other loves? Food! So if you have any BBQ, plate lunches, or bacon wrapped stuffed mushrooms…it won’t be there for very long!

My son attends Kanoelani Elementary, Rad Ry was his instructor.  He enjoys your classes; he took one last year which was on space exploration (he was so into the planets before he took that Mad Science class so he loved it).  He enjoyed this Mad Science class that just ended, too.  He was always excited to tell us about the experiment that was conducted each Monday.  He also conducted the experiments from the 'Home Labs' at home.  It's so nice to have an after school educational activity that gets my child so excited.  We'll be looking forward to next year's Mad Science program. - Annette S. (Kanoelani Elementary)

Shocking Shelly

A mother of 2, Shocking Shelly has mastered the art of helping children learn AND have fun at the same time…ALL the time! Bubbly and talkative there’s never a dull moment with her as your Instructor, and Mad Science is lucky to have her on our team going on 2 years now. But be careful all you young boys out there, you just might like Shocking Shelly more than you think…she’s already gotten a marriage proposal from one of her adorable 7 yr old students!

Test Tube Tina

Test Tube Tina is crazy… about Mad Science that is. As a child she wanted to be a ballerina, entomologist, herpetologist, electrical engineer, photo-journalist, and children's book author (in that order) but instead went to school to become a librarian. She has happily worked with toddlers through teens in a variety of youth service positions, but is now convinced that nothing beats the thrill of being a Mad Scientist. She delights in lighting—sometimes literally—that spark that gets kids interested in learning. In addition to loving her job, she is also quite fond of her family, her pets, her morning Sudoku ritual, warm baths, meteor showers, stargazing on Mauna Kea, Velcro, Rube Goldberg, list-making, and Beetles of all varieties—the bug and the band (Beatles) and the classic Volkswagen.

I was unsure as to whether my son's attention (he has ADHD)would be able to be held for the entire time, but she held not only his, but all the kids attention and we had almost 20 kids. Many parents and kids commented that this was the best birthday party ever! Tina did a great job!  -Regina V

Tina did a wonderful job interacting with the children. She had lots of energy and kept their attention through the entire presentation! Thank you!

-Marissa K (Waikiki Elementary teacher)

What a great show! All of the children couldn't stop talking about how wonderful the party was. My son said it was "the best birthday ever!" I couldn't be more happy with the quality of the show, the educational value it provided as well as the FUN, FUN, FUN all the children had.  - Deanne K.

Electric Ed

'Electric' Ed is a new member for our Hawaii location but not to Mad Science.  After working for 4 years at the Mad Science Tri-Counties location in Ventura, California, Ed came home to Waipahu in April 2010.  As 'Electric' Ed the educator and 'Aloha' Ed the entertainer,  he has edutained thousands of children in southern California while doing every program Mad Science has to offer.  His biggest joy and thrill is watching the children's eyes get big when they understand our experiments and say, " Science is Cool !!!"

Ed got his nickname, Electric, because he received  an electrical engineering degree from UCLA after graduating from Damien.  'Electric' Ed has even trained astronauts  while working at the Johnson Space Center in Houston for NASA while he was an Air Force officer.  He can even show you something that has been flown in space on the Space Shuttle.  Besides working with children, Ed enjoys meeting new people by being active in his church, Hope Chapel West Oahu, and as a part time casino dealer for casino rental companies.  In his spare time, 'Electric" Ed plays sports particularly softball, volleyball and bowling, reads personal development books and likes to be with his family.
