Birthday Party Frequently Asked Questions

 Birthday Parties -

Frequently Asked Questions

What age range are your parties for?

Our birthday parties are designed for children ages 5-11 years old.

How long does the party last?

The basic party lasts approximately 50 to 60 minutes. Party Grand Finales are available that add more time as well as more cost.

Where do you do your parties?

We come to your location. Most people have them in their homes, while others choose to have them at an alternative site, such as a club house, party room in a pizza parlor, church/synagogue meeting room, or park recreation building.

Is there a certain time that I need have my party?

We ask that invitation times on Saturdays be either at 11:00am or 3:00pm; on Sundays, at either 12:30pm or 4:30pm. We generally start 15 minutes after the invitation time. Other days/times may be available upon request.

How soon should I book my party?

Spots fill up quickly. Most people tend to book about one month in advance.

If it is nice out, can we have the party outside?

Our parties are best done indoors because bright lights and wind greatly diminish the special effects that we use and make some things impossible.  Don't worry - we will not mess up your house.  Call and we will explain how we do it.

What does a typical party consist of?

Our parties usually start with a "magic trick" and then we launch into a series of interactive experiments and demonstrations that are age appropriate. The activities are linked together with funny stories and jokes and are done in a manner so that every child will thoroughly enjoy the party.  Except for the Crazy Crime Lab party, the children will make something like slime, putty, bouncing balls, pet tornadoes, or periscopes to take home. The children will each receive a theme-related take-home for the Crazy Crime Lab party.

What are the age appropriate experiments and demonstrations?

Bubbling Potions: You may think that you are in a mad scientist’s laboratory as you witness vapor from dry ice will spill over from flasks and beakers. Bubbles will seem to be never ending as they tower out of a graduated cylinder. Hear and see how metals react with dry ice. These are just some of the experiments you’ll experience as you discover the cool world of dry ice. Appropriate for 5 and 6 year olds. (Note: In some locations, such as pizza parlors, we do the Bubbling Potions party even for older children; when that occurs, we modify the experiments and explanations to maintain age appropriateness.)

Special Effects: Find out how common objects can be used in uncommon ways to create special effects. We’ll put a bit of a spin on Bernoulli's Principal, duplicate a Star Wars effect, liberate the air trapped in Styrofoam, and more! Appropriate for 7 year olds.

Crazy Crime Lab: Get cracking on crime with Crazy Crime Lab! Challenge your skills of observation. Check for clues and examine evidence left at a crime scene. Have some fun stepping into the shoes of a crime scene investigator. Appropriate for children 8 and older.

Loony Lights: Nikola Tesla developed his high-frequency air-core transformer to transmit electrical power without wires – we’ll do that and make indoor lightning to boot. Plus, we’ll burn some of the metallic salts they use in fireworks and show the resulting colors and effects. We’ll have some fun with a black light, and use it to show off the glow-in-the-dark slime that the children will make. Appropriate for children turning 8 and older.

Get Crazy with Chemistry: We were working in our lab late last night, when we created experiments that proved a delight! We’ll get a little crazy as we discover differences between physical and chemical changes, create gas, and have a blast! Appropriate for children turning 9 and older.

NOTE: Because of instructor/equipment scheduling, not every party may be available for the date/time you want. Book early to ensure that you reserve the party you want.

What is the cost of the basic party?

The cost is $160.00 for up to 12 children.  If you have between 13-20 children, the cost is $180.00; for 21 to 25 children, $200.00; and for 28-32 children, $240.00 plus an  automatic 18% gratituty (will send 2 Mad Scientists). We accept cash or checks on the day of the party, or our office can charge your Visa or Master Card.

What is a Grand Finale?

Grand Finales extend the fun (15 to 20 minutes) by adding more activities to the party.  You may purchase one of the following Grand Finales:  1) Dry Ice,  2)  Rocket Launch (birthday child keeps a decorated, launchable rocket),  3)  Unlimited Cotton Candy,  or 4)  Van de Graaff Generator (static electricity). Each Grand Finale is $35.00.

Do you have party favors I can purchase?

We offer a Mad Science goody bag filled with items that the children will enjoy.  Currently, they are packaged in a colorful plastic bag and contain 7 items: Helix Flyer, Temporary Tattoos, Spin Disk, Flip Top, Polymer Putty, Soak 'n Grow Creature, and Stickers. Goody Bags are $5.00 each.

If you are looking for just one item to add to your own goody bags, we also offer “Rainbow” glasses; these are diffraction glasses that break white light down into the colors of the rainbow. Rainbow glasses are $1.50 per pair.
