The Mystery of Science

THE MYSTERY OF SCIENCE

Sessions For Grades: K - 2nd and 3rd - 5th

This camp will get your scientist creative minds working overtime. We have the best of the best in this week of Mad Science. Junior scientist will work on chemistry projects; learn about nature and the earth they live in. Your junior scientist will have the time of their lives building rockets and learning about photography. Don’t miss out on this fun filled week of Mad Science!

Day 1

Earth Awareness
Offered: Mondays for K - 2nd and Wednesday for 3rd - 5th
How are we hurting Mother Earth? Discover how science will help us protect our planet. Children will understand the basics of water pollution, acid rain, and the green house effect. By actively recycling their own garbage, they create a personal item to take home and actually use!

Day 2
Radical Reactions
Offered: Tuesdays for K - 2nd and Thursdays for 3rd - 5th
What holds atoms and molecules together? What happens to these bonds during chemical reactions? Mad scientists will use this day to study chemical reactions in depth. These reactions will include those that give off heat (exothermic), reactions that require heat (endothermic), reactions that proceed at a very fast pace, reactions that “go to far” and must try to return “home” (to equilibrium), and reactions that proceed in spite of the fact that they shouldn’t.

Day 3
Rockets
Offered: Wednesdays for K - 2nd and Mondays for 3rd - 5th

This action packed day will focus solely on rockets and the physics of rocket flight. After learning the model rocket safety code, campers will build different types of rockets and participate in the launching of these rockets during the day. Children will be divided into three groups; altitude trackers, launch preparation and launchers for all rocket launches and will get the opportunity to try all three roles

Day 4
Shutterbugs
Offered: Thursday of K - 2nd and Tuesdays for 3rd - 5th
How does a camera work? What does a lens do? What is a camera obscura? How did the idea of motion pictures start and how did early filmmakers figure out how to make images move? All these questions and more will be answered in this hands-on program wherein campers get to experience all aspects of photography.

Day 5
Rocket Blast
Offered: Fridays for K - 2nd and 3rd - 5th
Blast your way into rocket science!  Learn the Rocket Safety Code, so you can always have safe launches.  Build your own rocket made of recycled materials.  Launch your own water missile.  Experiment with different rocket designs, as you learn what makes a rocket work.
