Gallons of green glowing liquids; strange objects flying through the air; messages written in secret code; mystery substances that change from solid to liquid in seconds. Is this a fictional account of a visit to another planet? No . . . it's a Mad Science summer camp! Yes, Mad Science, the world's leading provider of fun science programs is offering summer science camps in Las Vegas. Kids can enjoy week-long science camps, sparking their imaginative learning while school is out! Your child will become a junior scientist for the week, having the opportunity to experience a variety of unique activities. Since Mad Science came to the Valley over seven years ago, we have become a staple at dozens of elementary schools, recreation centers, parties, and community events throughout the area. We are the THREE TIME recipient of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Award for "The Company That Best Exemplifies the Spirit of Las Vegas," and were awarded the Innovative Business of the Year Award for 2007! Our camps are truly unique experiences and encompass all of the fun and excitement you have come to expect from Mad Science, including our phenomenal take-homes! Children will design, create, build and assemble a variety of interesting projects and will take at least one project home every day. My child has already taken Mad Science at their school or rec. center... Is Summer Camp different? YES! Mad Science Summer Camps provide completely different programming than our After School and Rec. Center classes. They are unique experiences, specially designed for a Full Day of Hands On Fun! How do I register my child for a camp? Most 2011 Mad Science Summer Camp registration will take place online. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER NOW. Due to limited spaces in each camp, we cannot reserve a space for your child until we receive your payment. If you require further assistance with registering your child for Mad Science camp, please call our Mad Science Lab at 702-257-6231. Do you offer before and after care? Yes! Before and After Care will be included again this year at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE!!! Parents may drop off any time between 8:00-9:30AM, and pick up between 3:30-5:30PM (For Most Camps). Do you offer Spring Break Camps? Camps are designed for children entering grades 1 through 6. Who are the Mad Science camp instructors? Our amazing Mad Science instructors are fully-trained and have extensive experience working within the Mad Science system. Many are teachers in the Clark County School District. All instructors have passed an extensive background check, are certified in First Aid and CPR, and have a background in working with children. What should I bring to camp? Please send your child to camp in comfortable clothes. We will be outside for only short periods of time during the day, however if you would like your child to have sunscreen, please apply it before you drop your child off at camp. Your child may bring a bottle of water and snack to camp. If your child is attending a full-day camp, please send a sack lunch (no peanut products, please) and snacks for the day. If your child has any food allergies, please make sure to note that on your registration. No Red Drinks Please!! Can I sign my child up for more than one camp? YES! Many children sign up for multiple camps. Each one is totally different so that your child can enjoy them all without repeating activities. Are there any additional materials fees? The cost of the camp includes all materials, take-home projects, and Before and After Care! There is an additional $30 materials fee for the Red Hot Robots camp, payable at the time of registration. What if my child misses a day of camp? If your child misses a day of camp, we are happy to provide you with all materials for take-home activities that your child has missed. We are not able to offer any reimbursement for missed camp days. Do you offer any discounts? Yes! We offer a discount of $10 off per child, if you are registering more than one child for the same week. This is called our "Sibling Discount." Call 257-6231 for details. Is there a cancellation policy? Yes. If registration is cancelled more than one week prior to the start date of camp, a $50 per camper fee will be charged. If registration is cancelled one week or less prior to start date of camp, a $100 per camper fee will apply. Camp Descriptions: Camp #1 - Red Hot Robots! Join us for a week of fun with amazing robots! In this exciting week campers will learn about the uses of robots in our world and spend time experimenting with super cool red-hot robots. Experiment with sound sensing robots, line-tracking robots, amphibious robots and robots that can even play soccer! Discover the science of circuits and how robots use sensors to explore things around them. Use your skills to build your very own working robot to take home with you! (There is an additional $30 materials fee for this camp) Camp #2 - Science Slueths! Look out 007—the The Mad Science Flight Academy invites you to launch your knowledge of flight as you step into the shoes of a pilot! Build and launch a variety of rockets and planes from our Camp #4 - Survivor! Predator or Prey? Learn about Earth and Nature in this camp of survival! Each day Jr. Mad Scientists will explore new aspects of nature along their science adventure. We’ll introduce you to life in the form of cells and organs. Discover pollution solutions with solar power and recycling. Grow jaws and claws to feed your beastly stomach. Camp #5 - Jr. Engineers Discover how things move with science. View the world through a camera obscura that you make yourself. Join a team of Jr. Engineers and build bridges, domes, cubes and pyramids. Assemble and control pulleys, levers, catapults, simple machines and magapinchers! Learn what your toes have to do with tennis! Get a taste for space as you launch a “bottle rocket”. Camp #6 - Che-Mystery Radical reactions are all around us! Shake up a flask of fun in the lab as a Jr. Chemist and learn how to make a clock with fruit. Campers will get to handle laboratory tools, build and break molecules and change a liquid to a solid and back again! This week will help campers understand the mystery in chemistry!
