What ages are your parties suitable for?
Our Junior Science Party is great for children ages 4-6. It's filled with fun, hands-on experiments designed for the preschool child. This party lasts approximately 40 minutes, just enough for their attention spans!
Our Basic Science Party is great for ages 6-12. We have hands-on experiments and thrilling demos that are a sure-fire hit with kids and even adults! This party lasts approximately one hour.

Where can we have our party?
Mad Science comes to you, either to your house or another location of your choice--a park district, grandparent's house, restaurant private room, community room, etc. {If you choose to rent a room at a restaurant, it must be a private room with a door that closes.}
Note that to get the maximum effect from certain experiments, we do need an area that can be made dark. Darkness is for COOL experiments with electrical sparks and things that glow in the dark!

How much notice do you need to book a party?
Ideally, four to six weeks in advance. Our weekends fill fast, but we can do parties at any time/day of the week. The more notice you can give, the more likely you will get the date/time of your choice.
We do know that busy lives can equal last-minute ooopses, so we can accommodate a last minute request sometimes--give us a call. We do accept bribes and flattery (ha ha!)

Can we do the party outside?
Due to the nature of the experiments, most Mad Science parties are best held indoors. Wind, insects and outside distractions can ruin the party! However, we are happy to do a party in a garage or basement, provided there are no spiders (ha ha).
If it's a mess your worried about, note that Mad Science parties aren't messy! We do clean up after ourselves (but we don't do windows!) and the room will look like we found it. We can move outdoors for the Polymer Making experiment to ensure no spills occur. We also have tarps available if you'd like.

What do you need for set up?
We just need a table--a four-foot folding or card table is fine. If you don't have one, we can bring one. As far as seating, the party guests will have the best experience if they're sitting on the floor in front of our table, with about four feet between them and the Mad Scientist.

How long will the Mad Scientist be there?
The Party Scientist will arrive approximately 15-20 minutes before the show start time. We ask that you put an arrival time of at least 30 minutes beforehand on invitations. Example: Invitation states party starts at 2:00 p.m. Mad Scientist arrives at 2:15 p.m. The Mad Science show will start at 2:30 p.m. This way, the scientist isn't left standing there while children are still arriving.
The Basic Science Party lasts approximately one hour, and if you've chosen to have Add-Ons, they take an additional 30 minutes per.

My child was in a Mad Science class already. Are the parties different?
Yes, Mad Science parties have different experiments and demos than what children have seen in workshops, classes or camps.

Can I choose what experiments you will do at the party?
No. Because we keep birthday party experiments separate from other programming, we have specific programs for birthdays which may be subject to availability and other factors. Our parties are designed to convey basic scientific principles in fun and exciting ways. Topics may include air pressure, electricity or the states of matter using visually appealing, dynamic (and of course completely safe) experiments.

My child saw a friend's Mad Science party already. Will you do something different?
We do keep track of the parties we've performed. If you mention when booking yours that your child went to a party already, and provide us with the name of that child and the date, we will do our best to ensure that the experiments for your party are different. >Back to top

How many children should I invite?
In our experience, Mad Science parties are best with groups of fewer than 30 children. For our Junior Scientist preschool parties, try to stay under 20 children. Our parties are very interactive, and when you have too large a group, it isn't nearly as hands-on. We want all the children to have a chance to participate!

Do you include siblings or younger cousins in the total guest count?
Many of our parties have babies and toddlers watching the fun, too. They are more than welcome at the party, but please note that any children under age 3 should be sitting with an adult during the entire party for safety reasons. Not all the experiments will be appropriate or safe for children this age, and we ask for your understanding and respect for our Mad Scientists if they do not allow a child to do an experiment.
As for others, any child who participates in the party, does the experiments and makes the Mad Science Polymer will be counted in the total number of children. >Back to top
