Flight Academy Camp

Have you ever wondered how a 350-ton jumbo jet gets off the ground? As a certified flight cadet you will discover what makes airplanes fly. Master the Forces of Nature and take flight as we experiment with different methods of flight. Build your own model rocket and take part in a real rocket launch. Learning has never been this much fun!

Every day has a different theme:

The Wright Stuff
Step into the shoes of early aircraft inventors and experience the discovery of flight. Learn how the Wright brothers used science to achieve flight. Use the Scientific Method and a wind tunnel to solve the problem of controlling an airplane. Record your daily achievements in a camp journal. Assemble your own rubberband powered stunt plane. Take home a flying helicopter that is similar to the toy that fascinated the Wright brothers as young boys.

Up Up and Away!
Harnessing the wind and taking flight couldn’t be more fun. Build and decorate a kite while learning about the Forces of Nature. Discover how hot air balloons and parachutes work. Watch what happens when the Sun heats the air inside of a 50-foot long black bag.

Newton's Loco-motion
Sir Isaac Newton was just as curious about how things move as we are. Discover Newton’s Laws of Motion and something he called “inertia.” Take part in a soda bottle rocket launch as you discover how this fascinating rocket really works. Measure how high a model rocket can fly using a homemade altitude tracker. Design and paint your very own Flight Academy t-shirt.

Rockin' Rockets
Imagine yourself soaring above the clouds and into space as you build your very own model rocket that is capable of flying over 500 feet. Learn about model rocketry with hands-on experiments and activities. Learn the Model Rocket Safety Code and take part in a real rocket launch.

Earn Your Wings (not in 4 day camp)
Do you know what makes an airplane lift into the air? You will after this exciting camp. Follow the methods of the Wright brothers as you experiment with a lift tester and see how different wing shapes affect an airplane’s performance capabilities. Learn why an airplane’s wings and tail are so important to lift and control while in flight. Build and fly your own amazing balsa wood stunt plane.
