Mad Science of Minnesota is proud to present Brownie workshops and Junior Girl Scout workshops! Brownie Try-it Workshops! Here are six fun and educational workshops that help Brownies earn their science Try-its!
Building Art Examine the strengths and weaknesses of structures by building tetrahedrons and cubes. Experiment with shapes while building bridges. Construct a Roman Arch and design your own Girl Scout meeting place. Create your own structure to take home.
Movers Learn the basics of flight, and investigate the forces that create movement. Build your own kite and rubber band powered student plant as you experiment with lift, aerodynamics, and air pressure. Discover Bernoullis principle of air pressure while building your own pinwheel and experimenting with fast moving air.
Science in Action Chromatography is fun when you get to try it yourself during an investigation. Amaze your friends with the power of baking soda; create and take home a non-Newtonian fluid. Make and experiment with an electromagnet.
Science Wonders Examine the fundamentals of chemistry, magnetism, and electricity in this fascinating workshop. Brownies will build their very own crystal garden, make magnetic chains, experiment with static electricity, bubbles, and sample their own soda pop recipe.
Space Explorer Discover the secrets behind the stars and make a star locator. Discuss the constellations and create your own canister constellation. Learn about the phases of the moon and make your own pocket sundial.
Women in Science Get an introduction to three influential women who made waves in the scientific community. Learn about primates and make animal tracks, learn about archeology and simulate a dinosaur dig, learn about nursing and your own pumping heart.
Additional Information:

Junior Girl Scout Badge Workshops!
Here are four fun and educational workshops that help Jr. Girl Scouts earn their science badges!
Aerospace Build and test-fly paper airplanes, a kite and a balsa glider while learning about the four forces that affect flight. Learn the fundamentals of model rocketry, launch a rocket, experiment with parachutes.
Rocks Rock Create a volcanic eruption and examine igneous rocks that are formed from volcanic magma. Make a cast of a dinosaur fossil. Learn about rocks and minerals and search for your own minerals to start your collection.
Science Sleuth Become a science investigator and see how science affects the world around us. Learn about sound, electricity, and simple machines. Also learn about genes and extract some DNA, take finger print samples, and grow a crystal garden.
Science Discovery Create a secret message for a friend. Learn about the unique properties of light; make a kaleidoscope. Experiment with the cohesive property of water. Play games to trick your mind and have fun racing cars and learning about friction.
Sky Search Learn about stars, planets, meteors, comets and the phases of the moon. Explore the parts of a telescope. Make a canister constellation, a North Star locator and a star map.
Water Wonders Learn about the water cycle and make a water filter. Examine some fun creatures from local pond water. Experiment with the density and buoyancy of saltwater. Take home your own water-cycle-in-a-cup.
Women in Science Meet four women who made waves in the scientific community. Learn about molecules, DNA, primates and oceans from the foremost women in these fields. Discover how these women beat the odds to become experts in their chosen fields, and set an example for women scientists everywhere to follow. Additional Information:
