Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Mad Science Camp?

Mad Science camps are designed for exciting fun hands-on science activities.  Your child will become a junior scientist for the week, having the unique opportunity to experience a variety of science adventures!  We use inquiry-based techniques that allow even the youngest camper to enjoy learning.  Children will design, create and build a variety of interesting projects and will take at least one project home every day!  We will provide everything your child will need.  A  non-carbonated drink (like Kool-aide) will be provided.  Children should dress comfortably and come ready to have some fun!  If you child is attending one of our Full Day Camps, please provide a bag lunch.

What ages are the camps designed for?

Most of our camp offerings are for children ages 6 - 12 or K - 6th Grade.  We also have pre-school camp programs that are for children ages 3 - 5!

Our activities are specifically designed to be conducted in an age and grade appropriate manner.  Activities are comprised of large group discussions, small "team" work and individual attention.  Mad Science strives at all times to provide fun and safe science activities for all children participating in our programs.  To fulfill this commitment we ask that all children enrolled adhere to basic behavioral guidelines.  Our instructors set clear boundaries and expectations as to appropriate conduct and we hold all child to those expectations.

How many children will be in each camp?

Our camper to instructor ratio will be approximately 11 to 1.  Usually the average sized camp is about 20 children with 2 instructors.

Who are the Mad Science camp instructors?

Our Mad Scientists are the instructors that currently teach our programming in schools through-out the year.  All our instructors have experience working with large groups of elementary aged children and have undergone a background check and received appropriate training.  We also have assistant instructors during the summer months only that aid our instructors in their camp sessions.

How do I register my child for a camp?

Depending on the location of the camp, there may be several ways to register; mail-in, over the phone or on-line!  The easiest way is through our on-line registration system.  It takes about 5 minutes and accepts Visa and MasterCard and Checks.  Almost all of our camps are available through our on-line registration system, however, several locations are responsible for processing their own registrations.  Please refer to the camp schedule for this information.

Is payment due in full when I register?

Yes, however we will hold your check until 4 weeks before camp starts. If you enroll on line your credit card will be charged immediately. If we do not get sufficient enrollment to hold the camp, we will return your check or credit back your credit card.  You will be notified if that occurs.  Making payment by check does not guarantee placement until Mad Science receives your check.

How soon do I need to register to reserve a space for my child?

Some camp dates fill very quickly while some may have spaces available up to the start date.  We recommend that you register as soon as possible to insure your child has a spot in our camp.

What is your cancel/refund policy?

If you cancel within 2 weeks from camp start date there will be a $35.00 cancellation fee and the remaining funds refunded to you.  After that, no refunds will be given.  If we do not get sufficient enrollment to hold the camp, we will return your check or not charge your credit card.  If we have already deposited your payment, we will give you a full refund.  There is no fee charged if you cancel more than four weeks prior to the applicable camp start date.

You can switch sessions if we have space to accommodate at no penalty.

If we do not get sufficient enrollment to hold the camp, Mad Science will make every effort to provide alternative camp locations or you will be offered the option of a full refund.

Should your child be removed from a camp due to behavioral issues or consistent late pick ups etc. there will be no refund.

Will you be offering any other camps besides those on your program list?

No but if you are looking for another type of programming, workshops, science shows, cool science booths to bring to a location for your summer program needs please give us a call.  We have many great programs besides our current camp offerings!

Are these the only locations where you are holding your camps this summer?

Maybe not.  We may be adding locations so just give us a call to confirm.  If you can get at least 15 children and can provide a location, we will bring our camp to you!

Do you provide a snack with the camp?

For half-day, week long camps Mad Science will provide only a non-carbonated beverage (Kool-Aid, Water) during the break time each day.  If you have enrolled in a full day, week long camp you must provide a packed lunch for your child. Please clearly mark your child's name on all items.  We will have a cooler available at all full day camps for this purpose.

Do you offer Early Drop-off or Late Pick-Up?

In most cases, the location that we will be at will have an Early Drop Off (ED) or a Late Pick Up (LP) for a fee.  You can contact these locations to make these arrangements and a contact and phone number is available on our location registration forms!

What is your arrival and Pick up Policy?
