 Mad Science is an educational entertainment company focused on providing science enrichment for elementary-aged children through 6th grade. Mad Science of Portland & Vancouver is a local franchise of a world-wide company.
We are looking for high energy individuals to be presenters in our fun after-school science program. This position requires a high-energy, child-friendly individual with access to a reliable car and the ability to work 3-5 afternoons a week. Experience with kids in a paid or volunteer formalized environment is an absolute must! Have fun, educate and make a difference!
BE A MAD SCIENTIST!
The Mad Science Instructor/Presenter position is very part-time about 10 hours per week. Being an Instructor is perfect for college students (18 years and older) or others who need an afternoon job with a flexible schedule.
Mad Science Instructors are responsible for facilitating a one-hour after-school science program with a pre-set curriculum. Each session is a very high-energy, part entertainment, part education, hands-on class. Each class enrolls a maximum of 20 children in a 4 or 6 week program which meets one-hour per week. All of our classes are located on-campus at various schools in the Portland-Vancouver area.
 Instructors are assigned a class load of 3-5 classes per week. Each class takes approximately 2 hours to complete as you are required to be on-site 1/2 hour before your class begins and it takes about 1/2 hour to make sure kids are delivered safely to parents and to clean up.
MAD SCIENTIST REQUIREMENTS
To be invited to the interview you must have the following qualifications:

Previous experience with grade school kids in a formalized (paid or volunteer) setting. Having children of your own does not qualify you. -
Up-beat, child-friendly personality. -
Be able to work a minimum of 3 afternoons per week (classes begin anywhere from 1:30 to 3:45). -
Have a reliable car or access to a reliable car. -
Have a valid drivers license and current proof of automobile insurance. -
18+ years of age -
Able to pass an Oregon and Washington State background check. -
Looking for PART-TIME work. -
Be able to attend one mandatory staff meeting per week. (Friday at 2:00 pm) -
Able to attend mandatory training and orientation.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The presenter/entertainer/instructor position is a very part-time job. Mad  Science pays a flat-fee of $25 per one-hour class. With set up and tear down it averages about $12.50 per hour. Mileage reimbursement may be available.
Mad Science classes are held on-campus at various schools in the Portland/Vancouver metro areas. Instructors are assigned to a minimum of 3 classes at varying locations. You must be willing to travel daily to your assigned location. Mileage reimbursement may be available.
To be a Mad Science instructor you must attend a 20-hour (4-day) paid training course. This mandatory training will give you the basics you need to translate your skills into being a Mad Scientist.
