           Summer 2007

    Mad Science of Rochester is pleased to offer summer camps in four different locations: Brighton, Perinton, Ogden, and Pittsford. The camps will take place in each town's Recreation Center by well-trained and friendly staff. A snack and awesome take-homes are included each day! Each week an exciting new "camp" or theme will be offered so campers remain excited and curious all week long!

The Garden - Camp # 1 (ages 4 - 5)    

   Programs to Cover:

  •  Soil and Seeds

  •  Sun, Wind and Rain

  • Plants and Leaves

  • Flowers, Fruits and Veggies

  • Butterflies, Ladybugs and Bees

 The Garden is a wonderful introduction to basic environmental science.  Each session is devoted to different aspects of the garden, allowing children to progressively enrich their understanding of how living things grow and how they interact with the environment around them. Each day will include hands-on experiments, themed games, as well as a snack and story related to the day's programming. We'll even create a mural through the course of the program as children illustrate their latest discoveries at the close of each session. 

 

Motion, Potion & Commotion - Camp # 2

         (Gr. K - 2 and Gr. 3 - 5)

  • Matter / Polymers / Che-mystery / Kitchen Chemistry

    Campers will have tons of fun mixing up potions and experimenting with all kinds of chemical reactions! Our young chemists will create sidewalk chalk, and even make their own ice cream! Campers will find out how simple machines make our lives easier. They will explore the energy of motion and how energy can be conserved. Your mad scientist will find out what football players, scientists and ballet dancers all have in common. They will discover the strength of triangles, cylinders and arches, while having fun learning how these shapes make sturdy homes and skyscrapers. Snack and awesome Mad Science take-homes are included each day.    

Inside,Outside & Everything In-Between- Camp #3

           (Gr. 3 - 5)

  • Cell City
  • Organ trail
  • Chemical Counting
  • Radical Reactions
  • Highlights and Leftovers

     Campers will have an amazing week as we explore some of the body's most important parts, both inside and outside. Learn the basics of the code of life, how cells and their individual parts work together to help our body's function as easily as they do. Learn how the insides of our bodies work; how each of our organs has its own job to do. Learn how atoms and molecules bond together and what happens to those bonds during chemical reactions. And how come some reactions happen even though they really shouldn't. Find out all of this and so much more as we explore, "Inside, Outside and Everything In-Between." Snack and awesome Mad Science take-homes are included each day!
