(June - December)

Mad Science is an educational entertainment company focused on providing science enrichment for elementary-aged children through 6th grade. Mad Science of Sacramento Valley is a local franchise of a world-wide company.

We are looking for high energy individuals to be presenters in our fun after-school science program.  This position requires a high-energy, child-friendly individual with access to a reliable car and the ability to work 3-5 afternoons a week. Experience with kids in a paid or volunteer formalized environment is an absolute must!  Have fun, educate and make a difference!

BE A MAD SCIENTIST! 

The Mad Science Instructor/Presenter position is very part-time about 10 hours per week at most. Being an Instructor is perfect for college students (18 years and older), people working on obtaining their California Teaching Crediental or others who need an afternoon job with a flexible schedule. 

Mad Science Instructors are responsible for facilitating a one-hour after-school science program with a pre-set curriculum. Each session is a very high-energy, part entertainment, part education, hands-on class.  Each class enrolls a maximum of 20 children in a 4 or 6 week program which meets one-hour per week.  

Instructors are assigned a class load of 3-5 classes per week.  Each class takes approximately 2 hours to complete as you are required to be on-site 1/2 hour before your class begins and it takes about 1/2 hour to make sure kids are delivered safely to parents and to clean up.

MAD SCIENTIST REQUIREMENTS

To be invited to the interview you must have the following qualifications:

• Be Outgoing, Energetic, Creative!
• Previous experience with grade school kids in a formalized (paid or volunteer) setting (ages 4-12 highly desired!)  Having children of your own does not qualify you.
• Up-beat, child-friendly personality.
• Some knowledge/familarity in science is a plus!
• Be able to work a minimum of 3 afternoons per week (classes begin anywhere from 1:00PM to 5:00PM).
• Have a reliable car or access to a reliable car.
• WILLINGNESS TO DRIVE TO CLASSES -- We operate in Placer, Yolo, Sutter, Amador, El Dorado, San Joaquin, Soloano & Sacramento Counties. You WILL be asked to sometimes drive to these places!
• Have a valid drivers license and current proof of automobile insurance.
• 18+ years of age
• Able to pass a background check.
• Looking for PART-TIME work.

The presenter/entertainer/instructor position is a very part-time job. It is not intended to be a primary source of income. Most Mad Science Instructors are current students in College or have additional paid jobs and just do this for fun!

Mad Science classes are held on-campus at various schools in 8 counties within our territory (Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Yolo, Solano, Sutter, Yuba & San Joaquin).  You must be willing to travel daily to your assigned location.  Mileage reimbursement may be available.  

To be a Mad Science instructor you must keep up with program training and become certified in all classes prior to teaching. This mandatory training will give you the basics you need to translate your skills into being a Mad Scientist.
