Birthday Party FAQ's

Birthday Parties - Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  What age range are your parties for?

A:  Our birthday parties are designed for children ages 5-12 years old.  Pre-school parties are for ages 3-5.

Q:  How long does the party last?

A:  The Glacier party lasts approximately 50 to 60 minutes. The Denali and Aurora Borealis Parties are available that add more time as well as more cost.
Pre-school parties last approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

Q:  Where do you do your parties?

A.  We come to you!  Most people have them in their homes, while others choose to have them at an alternative site, such as a club house, party room in a pizza parlor, church/synagogue meeting room, or park recreation building.  That’s the wonderful thing about Mad Science Parties, we can go ANYWHERE!

Q:  Is there a certain time that I need have my party?

A.  Our party times on weekends are either at 11:00am or before; 2:00pm and 5:00pm or later. We request that you start your party 30 minutes prior to our show time.  This will make sure EVERYONE gets a chance to see us! Other days/times may be available upon request.

Q:  How soon should I book my party?

A:  Spots fill up quickly. Most people tend to book about one month in advance.

Q:  What do I need to do to book my party?

A:  We require a 50% deposit to secure your time slot.  We accept Visa / Mastercard and checks.  Please, no cash.  Your deposit will be applied on your invoice and the balance is due after the party.  At the time of booking, we will send out a letter that confirms your party reservation. If we have not heard from you sooner, we will call you about 5 days in advance to re-confirm your information.

(Please see our cancellation policy.)

Q:  If it is nice out, can we have the party outside?

A:  Our parties are best done indoors because bright lights and wind greatly diminish the special effects that we use and make some things impossible.  If you really want an outdoor party, we will do our best to accomidate. Don't worry - we will not mess up your house.  Call and we will explain how we do it.

Q:  What does a typical party consist of?

A:  Our parties usually start with a magic trick and then we launch into a series of interactive experiments and demonstrations that are age appropriate. The activities are linked together with funny stories and jokes and are done in a manner so that every child will thoroughly enjoy the party.  Because not every child may have the opportunity to be a volunteer, we always end the party with the children making something to take home.

Q:  What is a Party Enhancement?

A:  Party Enhancements extend the fun (15 to 30 minutes, depending on the package) by adding more activities to the party.  You may purchase any of the following Party Enhancements:

  1. Dry Ice
  2. Rocket Launch (birthday child receives a new one to build themselves)
  3. Unlimited Cotton Candy
  4. Spin Art.

Q:  Do you have party favors I can purchase?

A:  We offer a Mad Science goody bag filled with items that the children will enjoy.  Currently, they are packaged in a colorful plastic bag and contain 6 items: Helix Flyer, Soak & Grow Creature, Polymer Putty, Flip Top, Awesome Adhesives, Spin Disk and Temporary Mad Science Tattoos. They are $4.99 each.

Q:  Do you offer invitations?

A:  We have full-color invitations available. You can buy the exact number you need for $.75 each.

Q:  Should I tip the Mad Scientist?

A:  Often customers inquire about a gratuity for the instructor. This is at your discretion. If you do feel that a tip is warranted, please pay your Mad Scientist directly and do not include this amount in the balance due.
