What is a Mad Science Camp? Mad Science camps are designed for exciting fun hands-on science activities. Your child will become a junior scientist for the week, with the opportunity to experience a variety of science adventures. We use an inquiry-based technique that allows even the youngest camper to enjoy learning. Children will design, create, build and assemble a variety of interesting projects and will take at least one project home every day. We will provide everything your child will need. Children should dress comfortably and come ready to have some fun!
What is the child to instructor ratio? There will be no more than 25 children in each camp. Each camp will have one instructor and an assistant. Our New Covenant location is limited to 18 campers.
At what age is my child elegible for each camp? Camp numbers 1 through 8 : are open for children entering grades 2-5. Camp number 9: is for children aged 4-6.
Are different aged children in the same camp? Yes. We use a buddy system whereby the older children will sometimes help the younger ones. Also, with two adults in every camp, there is always plenty of help. For most of the activities, the children work in small groups. If we have enough campers registered to break into two classrooms, we will divide the campers by age.
Who are the Mad Science camp instructors? Most of our instructors are employees of Mad Science who have worked for us in our after-school programs conducted in over 40 schools every spring and fall semester. All of them have experience working with children. We also do a criminal background check on each one. One of their main characteristics is their love of working with children.
How do I register my child for a camp? Simply download a registration form from the pull-down menu on the left, print your copy out and mail or fax it with your payment in full. If you are paying by check, we do not reserve a space until we receive your check in the mail. Please be sure to include your email address (please print clearly) on the registration form. All confirmations of payments received and additional billing information will be sent via email.
Are there any discounts for booking multiple camps ? Yes, for the full-day camps there is a discount for booking multiple camps per child.
What is your refund policy? You can cancel up to 4 weeks prior to the start date of the camp to receive a full refund, minus the $50 non-refundable deposit. If you cancel within 4 weeks of the camp start date, you will only be refunded 50% of the camp fee. Once camp has started, no refunds will be given.
If we do not get sufficient enrollment (at least 12) to run your camp, you will be given a full refund (no cancellation fee will be charged), or the option to switch to a different camp.
How soon do I need to register to reserve a space for my child? Some camps and dates fill very quickly, while some may have spaces available up to the start date. We recommend that you register as soon as possible to prevent any disappointments.
Can I sign my child up for more than 1 camp? Yes. Many children sign up for multiple camps. Each one is totally different so that your child can enjoy them all without repeating activities.
What if the camp I want to book is full? There is a good chance that if a camp gets filled up quickly, there will be enough interest to open a second camp which will run at the same location, at the same time, but in a different room and with a different instructor. Most of the facilities we are using have plenty of space for our use and we would be happy to run several camps concurrently.
My child has attended a Mad Science camp before. If he/she took a particular camp number, will it be the same camp that he/she has taken before? Please refer to the camp descriptions. We have had a lot of children take a particular camp again and still enjoy it the second time.
Do you provide a lunch with the 7-hour camp? No. We ask you to send a sack lunch with your child.
