Camp No. 8
CRAZY CHEMWORKS HALF-DAY CAMP (For Grades 2-5)
Mad Science invites you to shake up a flask of fun in the lab as a junior chemist! These five half-days of chemistry are packed solid with cool reactions. Campers put on some goggles and change liquid to solid and back again. They get to handle laboratory tools, build and break molecules, and pick up some tricks on chemical changes.
|
Chemistry Club |
Start your chemistry career with some laboratory basics. Campers learn to swirl, pour and mix like a scientist. Check out the colors of chemistry with the power of pH paper and create a stopper-popping reaction! |
|
Reaction Time |
Make some fast-acting changes with your fellow junior chemists! Campers teach themselves to tell the difference between physical and chemical reactions and then put their knowledge to the test! You'll be pushing the limits of chemistry today. |
|
Chemical Combo |
See the lighter side of science in this half-day of chemical fun! Campers see how white light brings rainbow colors to our eyes, and make some others glow. Mix up some solutions and make some slime! |
|
Crazy Concoctions |
Explore the science in your home. Find out what makes glue stick and try out a tape test. Learn how chemistry makes what you bake, and see the stuff that keeps bread together. |
|
Super Cool Science |
Chill down and heat up at the atomic level with solids, liquids and gases. See how cold dry ice is and melt metal in hot water! Make colorful chemical reactions and find out how they happen. |
Camp No. 9
YOUNG SCIENTISTS HALF-DAY GARDEN CAMP (For ages 4-6)
This exciting Mad Science camp offers young scientists (age 5-6) an introduction to basic environmental science. Each session is devoted to different aspects of the garden, allowing children to progressively enrich their understanding of how living things grow and how they interact with the environment around them. During the course of each three-hour session, children will perform hands-on experiments, play themed games and enjoy a snack and story related to the session's themes. Children will also make take-home projects each day.
|
Soil and Seeds |
Learn where things grow, the different characteristics of seeds, and explore what seeds become. Dissect seeds, learn about the different ways that seeds are planted in nature and how plants travel through their seeds. Make your own seed badge to take home. |
|
Sun, Wind & Rain |
Discover what types of weather are vital for a healthy garden. Learn to identify basic weather conditions, and perform an experiment about water and wind shaping the garden. Make your own sun visor to wear while you work in the garden. |
|
Plants and Leaves |
Explore the different parts of plants and leaves. Learn more about plant characteristics through activities like leaf rubbings and examining plants and leaves under a microscope designed for young scientists. Make a Budding Bean necklace to take home. |
|
Flowers, Fruits & Veggies |
Investigate what plants produce. Examine the different parts of flowers, fruits and vegetables using your microscope. Create your very own plants and flowers in your journal and make beatiful art prints of fruits and vegetables to take home. |
|
Butterflies, Ladybugs & Bees |
Examine other inhabitants of the garden, including butterflies, ladybugs and bees, and learn how these creatures help the garden grow. Learn about pollination, how bugs see and basic bug anatomy. Make a butterfly bracelet to take home along with your camp journal from the week. |
