In this party we do some experiments such as Invisible Ink, showing the children how the ink disappears after an “accidental” spill. We show the children the science behind light sticks and talk about chemiluminescence in lightning bugs and luminol. We use hydrophobic sand to demonstrate it’s unique properties. We talk about endothermic and exothermic reactions. A plasma ball is brought out to light up neon tubes and explain conduction. Of course everything is safe.
Experiments:
« Invisible Deck – An exciting magic card trick to distinguish magic from science.
« Invisible Ink – Watch a chemical reaction with invisible ink occur right before your eyes
« Anti-Freeze – A chemical is added to water to show it’s amazing properties.
« Light Sticks – learn about chemiluminescence in light sticks
« Chemiluminescence – Learn how lightning bugs and fireflies glow
« Hydrophobic Sand – Watch this special sand repel water!
« Mad Match – Learn about the chemical reaction that makes a match light.
« Burning Money – A dollar bill mysteriously stays unburned when lit on fire! Discover what chemical allows this to happen.
« Cotton / Flash Cotton – Learn what chemicals can make an item burn quicker and cleaner
« Baby Fire Extinguisher – Learn how soda can get the same properties as a fire extinguisher
« Endo and Exo Thermic Reactions – Learn about these two different reactions that affect every day life
« Plasma Ball – Introduce the children to the 4th state of matter: Plasma!
« Slime Making – The children will make slime and get to take it home with them.
