Blood, guts, and more will be explored in this thrilling workshop about the human body. Throughout a series of hands-on experiments, students will discover the ooey gooey truth about their digestive, muscular and respiratory systems. Following discussions about the five senses, students will experience what life would be like without their sense of sight. Children will identify what is different and the same between humans, other mammals, and plants.

To demonstrate how easily our eyes can be fooled, students will make a thaumatrope. The power of the brain will be revealed when children make a model brain to bring home with them.

As Junior Engineers students will build structures and identify the cool shapes used to provide strength and stability. In this hands-on workshop children will identify three types of materials (wood, plastic, and fabric) used in building structures. Grade 1 students will use their five senses to gather information about secret mixtures and to guess the materials used in creating them. Children will construct a cool box to hold all their personal treasures. Using a variety of materials, their creative energy will pulse as students create a unique, one-of-a-kind, nifty noises container.

This stimulating & hands-on workshop will have students energized as they investigate various forms of energy and their paramount value for survival of all life forms. Using a light bulb, battery and switch, students will experiment how to generate electricity. Students will discover solar energy is the principal source of energy and will be introduced to the wacky world of potential and kinetic energy.   Using ultraviolet bead, children will make a UV keychain to alert them when they should be wearing sun protection. The wonders of wind energy will be clearly demonstrated to all children when they make a pinwheel to bring home with them.

Grade 1 children will all want to be meteorologists after discovering the scientific wonders of weather. During this fun workshop, students will discover the important role weather plays in everyday life. They will discover how they can prepare for seasonal changes and will never again question why they have to ‘wear this and can’t wear that’. Children will identify days, months, years and why each cycle occurs. In this hands-on workshop, children will make three take home activities. They will be awestruck as they create movie effect snow in a cup, a season wheel to remind them of each season and their very own pet tornado to bring home with them.

Throughout this interactive workshop, the wild, wonderful world of the Animal Kingdom will be explored. Students will discover how their favourite creatures grow and change throughout the animal’s life. A series of awesome experiments will enable children to identify the various ways animals adapt and survive their environments. We will take a bite out of the mystery of teeth and beaks. Students will make comparisons between their own human life cycle and the life cycles of plants and animals. Along with receiving a journal, students will make and take home a 3-D model of a turtle. They will also construct a Life Cycle Yahtzee game to entertain their friends and family.

Levers, inclined planes, pulleys, screws, wedges, wheel & axles; all simple machines every Junior Engineer will need to know. Throughout a series of hands-on experiments, students will understand the purpose of the six simple machines and will identify examples around them. Gravity, balance and friction will all be put through a Mad Science test as children work together using inclined planes. Along with receiving a journal, students will construct a spinning top to bring home with them. Combining four simple levers, children will also build their very own Micro-Pincher.

As Junior Scientists, students will explore the three states of matter - solid, liquid, and gas. They will be amazed to discover that water can exist as each state of matter. As the children pour and mix liquids they will gain a greater understanding of the concept of buoyancy and density. Reinforcing the importance of safety in the home and school, we will identify product warning symbols. Suspending beads, sequins and glitter; students will marvel how they are able to make a Sparkle Tube which they will bring home with them. Everyone will also make a container of our famous Mad Science slime!
