Encouraging Creativity and Discovery

Upstate Visual Arts brings you Mad Science of the Upstate to reach out to children’s creative and discovery side and expand children’s minds in our community. We want to encourage the young Leonardo da Vinci’s in the upstate.  Leonardo de Vinci is considered one of the greatest artists of all times but was also ahead of his time in science and innovation. He conceptualized a calculator, helicopter, tank and concentrated solar power among many other concepts.

Upstate Visual Arts began officially in 1991, when a small group of area business and cultural leaders resolved to serve both area artists and the community by celebrating the vast talent of local artists. UVA now exists as a thriving non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, almost 500 members strong.

Since 1995, Mad Science of the Upstate has been reaching out to children in Greenville and Spartanburg counties with fun hand-on science programming for 5 to 12 year olds. Mad Science provides a unique assortment of hands-on programs such as after-school programs, birthday parties, in-class workshops, summer camps and stage shows.

Our goal is to encourage children to be creative, to think outside the box and support their investigative and discovery sides.
