For Grades 3 & up only (Maximum of 8 students per class)

Spend the semester learning about robots while we experiment and play with them. We will we discuss what makes robots different from humans while exploring circuits and conductivity as well as simple machines. Over the course of the semester each participant will build one of these robots (pictured below). Unlike other robotic clubs, each child will get to keep their completed robot at the end of the semester to show off to their friends!

The Binary Player is controlled by black and white patterns on a disk, which are read by an infrared sensor. Particular patterns activate either of two wheels to turn left, right, forward, or pause. These on/off commands illustrate the basic principles of binary coding.

Learn about and play with robots while we build this Hyper Peppy. It’s an intelligent robot with a touch/sound sensor. If it comes in contact with an object or hears a loud noise (such as hands clapping), Hyper Peppy automatically reverses, then turns left before embarking on a new course.

Project for the Winter '12
Weasel is a tenacious little robot warrior that embodies two sensors that allow it to “see” a line or “feel” its way along walls and around corners. The two motors and contact sensor activate the wall sensing micro switch to control the motors’ on/off operation that determines the path of a wall.

The Jungle robot teaches the basic principles of robotic sensing and locomotion. With two modes of transportation (Orangutan mode or Gorilla mode) this robot is sure to be an awesome adventure.
