WHAT IS A MAD SCIENCE SPECIAL EVENT?

Mad Science Special Events come in a variety of formats, with the three most popular being Shows, Activity Stations and Roaming Mad Scientists. Descriptions of each follow:

1. MAD SCIENCE SHOWS

Mad Science shows thrill audiences young and old with a variety of interactive, spectacular and educational experiments on a variety of different science topics.

• Performed by animated professional Mad Scientists, trained to present the material in an entertaining and educational manner.

   

• Available in half, three-quarter or a full-hour format.

   

• Suitable for stationary audiences ranging in size from 50-500+ children.

   

• Four different shows to choose from.

   

Mad Science high-energy demonstrations are sure to leave your audience with memories that will last well beyond our grand finale.

MAD SCIENCE SHOW DESCRIPTIONS

We generally will select a show for you, however, should you wish to choose an alternate show, you may do so subject to availability. A brief description of each of our shows follows.

FIRE, WIND AND ICE

Children will be dazzled and entertained as they interact with our Mad Scientist! This spectacular show will thrill audiences with impressive science experiments that investigate the physical and chemical properties of matter. The show includes demonstrations that deal with combustion, air and air pressure, and the special characteristics of dry ice. The audience will be amazed as the Mad Scientist burns paper "instantly", levitates a ball in mid-air and creates foggy dry ice storms and bubbly showers.

UP, UP AND AWAY

This spellbinding show introduces the audience to the principles of air, air pressure and vehicles that travel through the air. The children will be amazed as a soda bottle is crushed right before their very eyes as they come to understand how air pressure affects the world around us. The Mad Scientist will demonstrate how a hot air balloon works, use a vortex generator to create giant smoke rings and demonstrate an incredible exothermic reaction using a special powder. The children will get the chance to watch a hovercraft in action and how pressure can be used to create special effects in the movies.

SPIN, POP, BOOM!

The audience will be amazed with the demonstrations in this energetic and spectacular show. The children will be enthralled as the Mad Scientist is able to defy gravity using water, makes exotic sounds using combustion and didgeridoo tubes and uses chemistry to create an extra hand to help with some of the more complicated experiments. An explosion of foam will help end this event and leave the audience begging for more.

MARVELS OF MOTION

This interactive show is all about the fundamentals of moving science, particularly Newton’s Three Laws of Motion. The show will also include all sorts of surprises including dancing, egg-tossing and even amazing space-age rocket propulsion. Prepare to be amazed when the Mad Scientist unveils our top secret Mad Science Motion Machine. Come and discover the science behind motion and find out why this show is such a "blast"!

SOUNDS LIKE SCIENCE

Children will get excited about science, with a particular focus on the science of sound. Kids will get tuned-in to learning with exciting demonstrations and experiments including the surprisingly loud Dinosaur-in-a-Can, a swinging sound tube and a metal pipe! Children will cheer as we launch a potato in the air. What are all kids talking about? Sounds like Science!

Educators may wish to refer to the table below to see how each show complements the elementary science curriculum. We provide pre and post-event packages for each scheduled school. The packages contain resources and activity ideas designed to maximize the educational impact of each show.

THEME SHOWS

With advance notice, we can also customize one of our shows to fit a requested topic and/or theme. Currently available themes include:

Halloween Show

This show is a modified version of Fire, Wind and Ice that incorporates Halloween-themed experiments and story lines.

Safety Show

This show is a modified version of Fire, Wind and Ice that emphasizes safety. We address a variety of safety topics including but not limited to: fire and chemical safety, personal safety equipment and the importance of wearing a properly fitted bicycle helmet.

Tobacco Free Show

This show is a modified version of our Tobacco Free Workshop. It is packed with fun and interactive demonstrations that will get children in grades 3-6 completely grossed out by the effects of tobacco while arming them with the knowledge that they need to make the decision to be "Tobacco Free".

Vacation Bible School Show*

These shows are modified versions of Fire, Wind & Ice and Up, Up & Away that have a Christian perspective added. In short, we use a science experiment to help illustrate and explain a Bible story or lesson.

*While this show has a Christian perspective, with advance notice, we can create a program for most any church or religious denomination. Let us design a program for you!
