They will also learn how to make a CO2 fire extinguisher, and discover the power of vinegar & baking soda!
BUGS - Best for Grades 2-5 -This class will introduce students to the realm of insects when they learn about their fabulous flying abilities, their unique eyesight, and the way they defend themselves against predators. Students will get an opportunity to see how camouflage works and see how chemicals combine to create the same reaction that makes fireflies glow in the dark!
CHE-MYSTERY - Best for Grades 2-5 (Requires Electricity) - Children will explore one of the most exiting and fundamental sciences as they grow their own crystal gardens. They will also learn how to break polymer bonds and create soda pop.
CURRENT EVENTS - Best for Grades 3-5 - Take a tour on the electron freeway! The class will learn about conductors, insulators, transistors, and other elements in the world of circuit electricity. After learning the basics, students will be challenged to work in teams to complete a circuit and light up a bulb.
DETECTIVE SCIENCE - Students will become science sleuths as they investigate how chemistry provides evidence at the scene of the crime. During this hands-on detective work, children will gather and test 'crime scene' clues, make and analyze their own fingerprints, decipher codes and encrypt messages.
DIGGING FOR DINOSAURS - Best for Grades K-3 - Let's be Paleontologists & learn about the creation, excavation and preservation of fossils! In this exciting class children will learn when the dinosaurs lived, what they ate, and how it came to be that we have pieces of them here with us today. The children will examine some really old fossils and learn how to make their own casts so that they can continue to study them at home. Finally, students will participate in a dig to locate, recover and assemble the "fossil remains" of a mystery dinosaur!
DRY ICE - (Requires Electricity or Hot Water) - Children will be introduced to the scientific concepts of phase changes and states of matter. They will witness the phenomenon of sublimation as we demonstrate the unique properties of dry ice and the spectacular "smoke" it creates. The children will learn that dry ice is really frozen carbon dioxide and will experience the Mad Science burp, a display of bubbling potions and, finally, a thrilling cemetery scene.
EARTHWORKS — Take a voyage to the center of the Earth! We'll investigate the powerful process that shapes our planet and forms remarkable rocks, magnificent minerals, and glittering gems! Children will take home Ultraviolet Detectors which they build themselves!
FUNDAMENTALS OF FLIGHT & STUNT PLANES - Best for Grades 1-5 - This class is a wonderful mix of conceptual and hands-on learning, which will introduce your students to the basics of aerodynamics. Kids will learn about the forces that affect flying machines, and will build a football glider, a Delta Dart and even a loop-flying stunt plane.
HARNESSING HEAT - Best for Grades 1-5 (Requires Electricity) - Fast moving molecules are the main attraction in this exploration of energy and heat. Children will see Boyle's law in action, as we show how air behaves when heated or cooled, and will also learn the role heat plays in phase changes. To wrap it all up, the children will take home the tasty miracle of science we know as Cotton Candy.
LASER LIGHT (Requires Electricity & Darkened Room) - In this class, students will be introduced to the world of lasers, light and optics. The Mad Scientist will explain the properties and types of light, as well as how light travels. The class is then introduced to the laser, how it works, how its beam can be manipulated and what its practical applications are. For a grand finale, the children will be treated to a laser light show!
LIGHTS...COLOR...ACTION (Requires Electricity & Darkened) - Room Using a Newton's color wheel that they have built themselves, students in this class will prove that white light really is made up of all the colors of the rainbow! They will witness the wonders of chromatography in an exciting demonstration and will then be introduced to the concept of diffraction. Children will then experience this first hand wearing "rainbow" glasses during a spectacular indoor fireworks display!
MAD SCIENCE MACHINES — Peek into a class to watch elementary-age engineers hard at work with pulleys and levers. They will design, problem-solve, and have a whole lot of fun! Students will even take home a cool Mad Science Machine that they build themselves!
MAGNETIC MAGIC - Best for Grades 3-5 - Investigate the powers and daily uses of magnets! In this class, students will learn about polarity, will visualize magnetic fields, and will learn how to magnetize ordinary metals. They will also see how to make a compass, and will build their own electromagnets to take home!
MATTER OF FACT - In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of chemistry. They will construct their own marshmallow molecules, learn to distinguish between physical & chemical changes, and even get to play alchemist for a day by turning a nickel into gold (well, almost). To finish up, children are introduced to the basics of polymers and get to make their very own polymer putty to take home!
OPTICAL ILLUSIONS - Best for Grades 1-5 - In this program, students will learn about the eye, how we see, and why our eyes are so easily tricked. They will also discover that water drops can mimic lenses, which can be used to magnify or shrink images. The use of mirrors in optical illusions is easily understood after students build their own periscopes.
ROCKET DEMO - In this class, students will learn the basic principles of rocket flight. They will learn about forces & propulsion through fun, hands-on activities and demonstrations. The Mad Scientist will then prepare a rocket for flight, explain pre-launch safety procedures and then head outside for the grand finale…the Rocket Launch!
SCIENCE OF MAGIC - The secrets of magic are explored in this fun class. The children will watch as the Mad Scientist changes water to grape juice and back again as well as several other captivating tricks. The classl get to experience Houdini's chain escape first hand and make their very own magic trick to take home and amaze their family!
SCIENCE OF TOYS - Did you know that some of your favorite toys work using basic science principles? In this class we use bouncing balls, yo-yos, and other classic toys to discover the sceince of motion through fun hands-on activities. Find out how cool vector toys and string things work and make your own super balls!
SLIME: PLAYING WITH POLYMERS - Best for Grades K-4 - Giant molecule chains called polymers are vital to modern civilization. In this program, we will explore, create and play with the most entertaining and useful molecule known to science, and discover its many shapes and forms. Children even make their own slime that they get to take home and keep!
SPACE: THE FINAL FRONTIER — These are the voyages of young inquiring minds on a quest to discover Space! Their mission: to take an exciting look at planets, moons, comets, and the starsto boldly go where bright young minds love to go. (Space suits not required.) Children will return from their mission with their own piece of the skies!
STUNT PLANES & FUNDAMENTALS OF FLIGHT — This class is a wonderful mix of conceptual and hands-on learning, which will introduce your students to the basics of aerodynamics. Kids will learn about the forces that affect flying machines, and will build a football glider, a Delta Dart and even a loop-flying stunt plane.
