Fire and Ice:
Discover the cool chemistry in the states of matter and be awed by the the effects of very hot and very cold temperatures. Meet our amazing friend Eggbert and witness a show-stopping exothermic reaction. Volunteers will get to experience matter transformation from one state to another by tasting a fizzing Mad Science “burp” potion, and taking a Mad Science bubble bath and shower. They will also be in a scary movie scene using dry ice special effects!
Up Up and Away:
Get ready to be mystified by molecules and amazed by atmospheric pressure in this event on the power of pressure. Witness how a soda bottle can be crushed and how an ordinary object can become a hot-air balloon. Experience air pressure with giant smoke vortexes, and Zoom across the floor on the Mad Science hovercraft in a display of air pressure power and frictionless motion.
Spin, Pop, Boom:
You’ll be spellbound with these cool experiments in physics and chemistry, from volcanic reactions to spinning centrifugal force demonstrations. Learn about the physical forces and molecular interactions in what we see everyday. Observe how chemical reactions make foam shoot up into the air, and how a hand appears to grow. Finally, watch as a swirl of steam, like a genie, dances out of a bottle.
Sounds Like Science
In this special event children will unlock the mystery of sound using ordinary items to make spectacular noises. They will hear a pipe sing, participate in a massive sound wave, and turn an unsuspecting volunteer into a human subwoofer using magnets. Eating a “pickle” will never be the same after experiencing this exciting show
Be Tobacco Free
Students discover the science behind the effects of tobacco use during this interactive health science event. The health risks from tobacco use are demonstrated in a graphic way using equipment such as the second-hand smoking chamber and Mr. Gross Mouth. Science information such as nicotine’s impact on the heart and lungs is explored and students discover how tobacco use can lead to an unhealthy body.
