After-School Programs

These hands-on, one-hour science programmes are themed around a particular area of science and include such topics as rocketry, magnets, polymers and even the science of magic!. Children engage in exciting hands-on activities, watch spectacular demonstrations, participate in enquiry-based discussions and take home things that they have made themselves like model rockets, periscopes, Mad Science slime and more. FAQ's

Does it cost the school any money?

Absolutely not! What's more, we'll even come and do a free assembly for the whole school if you invite us to do an after school club. These 30 minute assemblies are spectacluar, interactive and educational - certainly not something to be missed!!

Can the school pay if they wish?

Of course, we do many proagrammes all over the region that have been funded through the PTA, lottery funding, Extended Services and the schools own budget. We can do SAT's boost courses and special courses for Gifted and Talented pupils. Please call us for more information on this.

How does the information get to the parents

We provide registration forms to give to all the children to take home. The forms include all the information the parents will need to know about the course and once completed will provide us with the information about each child who wishes to participate so we can create registers for the classes.

Is there any obligation?

Absolutely not – if we do not get a good response from our forms then the school are not under any obligation.

 How do the courses run?

A day/time will be agreed with  the school as well as the start date. We would then send our instructors to the school to deliver the course, it really couldn't be simpler!! We provide all materials required for each class and do not need any school staff to be present.

Risk Assessment

We have risk assessment documents for all the activities and demonstrations that we do – a copy of this can be supplied to the school upon request

 Health & Safety

This is of primary concern to Mad Science and we ensure all our instructors are thoroughly trained in all aspects of health and safety whilst the children are within their care. We ask that all children attending a Mad Science programme adhere to basic behavioural guidelines and our instructors are trained to set clear boundaries and expectations as to appropriate conduct.

What age are the after school clubs appropriate for?

The clubs are appropriate for both KS1 and 2.

What subjects do you cover at the after school club?

Many of the curriculum topics are covered in addition to some further topics that we feel primary age children would find exciting and educational. Our after school clubs are enrichment programmes so are an opportunity for children interested in science to build on what they are learning at school. The clubs also attract children who normally do not have a great interest in science (usually because they find it ‘boring’) but are excited by the high energy, fun, hands-on way of enjoying science that we offer.

Why Mad Science after school clubs?

Our clubs have been proven to not just increase children's scientific knowledge but to increase their interest and liking of the subject as well!  And if you are not already offering any extra curricular science activities your children are missing out!!
